And in the Latter Days,… Men’s hearts shall fail them for fear. Luke 21

I have not been blogging as much lately. Nor listening to as much talk radio, nor watching as much TV. It is not because I am busier than before, it is because I have been trying to uncomplicate my life.

Now, do not get me wrong, I am still informed, and engaged. However, there comes a time when you have to pick your battles. I came to this epiphany after the battle against the illegal immigration abomination. This was a classic battle of the little guy against the big guy and I was surprised that we won. I then realized that so many things that we fret and bother with are not really important. Which left winger said what about the president or about the troops. Who did what to whom on Capitol Hill. What is the latest outrage by some socialist pinko judge on the ninth circus?

These things are important only to be aware of them, but if you are constantly whipped into a frenzy, if you are always on attack mode, you will find that the important things in life have left you by. Here are the things I managed to do in the last few weeks.
1) Read several good books
2) Make an MP3 compilation of my favorite blues music
3) Play some friendly games of poker with a bunch of friends
4) Get in a little fishing

And now that fall is approaching, I am thinking hard about golf and football games.

Remember, although the fight is important, it will outlast all of us. The forces of chaos and stupidity are never exhausted, and never vanquished. So you have to pace yourself.

Let me give you and example: The President is very unpopular. He is being pressured to end and unpopular war even by members of his own party. He is being attacked by political opponents for squashing civil liberties, for gross incompetence, and for war profiteering. And there is even talk of impeachment.

Of course I am talking about President Abraham Lincoln in 1864. So you see, history slogs on, and although we are required to join the struggle, let’s not let it consume us.

This conversational setup looks like it could be as addictive as video poker.
You post. Read the response. You gotta post again.

Addicted to arguing? Is there a 12Step program for this place?

It's true. If you have a significant other they won't let you waste your whole life on here. The more hits the site gets though the better off it is. So get addicted away :)

you've already narrowly dodged the bullet with the "bridges in Bagdad" comment. Spend a while reading and watching and get the lay of the land before one of the moderators gives you the "One Step Program for this place."
