By Old Crow

Dick Durbin has a new sales pitch to get the DOD behind supporting the "Dream Act". He intends to attach the legislation to the defense authorization bill that will be rushed through later this fall and thus hide this, as much as he can, from the public.

The pitch to the military is allow undocumented immigrants, who have a high school diploma, the option of enlisting in the armed forces. I assume they would have to pass the ASVAB vocational test with the same scores as citizens, as well as criminal background checks but I have not been able to confirm this.

I happened to be standing by the lifeguard stand when a young women approached and asked why the waves were so high. The lifeguards gave an answer similar to what I wrote above, the women replied "Oh, I thought the high waves were due to global warming".

I thought one lesson learned from Enron, was that accounting firms shouldn't have cozy relationships with the companies whose books they are auditing? Now a sitting Senator is encouraging this very behavior.

Posted at 6:29pm on Aug. 6, 2007 $85 Million to paint a stone bridge?

By Old Crow

That's right. The Brooklyn bridge structure is made of stone and hence does not need paint. Only the suspension cables and assorted bits are metal and need painting. So why does it cost $85 million to do the job? The NY Sun has more.
