Happy Birthday To Me

By Raven Comments (10) / Email this page » / Leave a comment »

I must say, my 23rd birthday is not the best I've ever had. My 21st may not have been the blowout everyone said to expect, but it certainly was a great deal better than today.

Today I reached for my wife when I woke up so I could celebrate my 23rd before I even opened my eyes. When I grabbed one of my dogs instead of her, I was reminded that she is now more than 500 miles away, undergoing Basic Combat Training for the US Army.

Today, I logged into Redstate expecting to see that at leaast one of the truly great men who was running, Steele and Allen, had won. They both deserved to. Allen for his record and Steele for the breath of fresh air and old fashioned sportsmanship that he would have brought. Only to find that both are now expected to lose. Despite the Absentee Ballots.

Today, I put on my uniform and headed to work knowing that a job that I detest has just gotten harder and that the gloating I only saw on TV and heard on the radio in the past will now be done in my face and behind my back and on the other side of the phone.

Today, I learned that a great deal of evil will be allowed to happen around the world because the Commander-in-Chief no longer has the support from the Legistlature to prevent or correct it.

Today I watched the early trading on the stock market show a marked decline from where it had been trending over the last couple years.

Today I have come to expect the worst of the future and fear that my countrymen truly are as blind and stupid as I said they were for the first 20 years of my life.

On my birthday, I have but one wish:
That God grant me the strength of heart to soldier on no matter how bad it gets and to be ready for the worst if it happens; but to help me do what I can to Prevent that worst from happening.

With this thought, I now turn to the cake I bought at WalMart in the absence of one made by my wife and blow out the candles.

God Be With Us All For Now Is The Time That We Need Him The Most.

Happy Birthday Raven!

Right about now, I'm very disappointed. I lost Talent, I lost the stem cell issue, and I barely escaped a huge school bond tax increase. I'm sure it will be back.

But my mother reminded me this morning that I still don't have much to complain about. When she was born, my grandparents were voting against FDR and losing every single time, even as he imposed programs that would be causing trouble for 70+ years. Then she came of age and voted against JFK...and he won. Then LBJ...and he won. Then she finally won one and it turned out to be Nixon. Sigh.

She raised her kids through JFK, LBJ, Nixon, a little Ford, and Carter. I was voting age when we got Reagan and it looked like our time of suffering was ended. Then we got Slick Willie.

In her entire life, the Rs have controlled Congress less than a quarter of the time. The rest of her life has been devoted to casting futile ballots for a losing cause. But she soldiers on.

Next to her, I have suffered not at all.

I meant what I said and I said what I meant. An elephant's faithful 100 percent.

A couple things to take the bite off the bad news...

1. President Bush is still the CinC. No Democrat victory can take that from him.

2. If Montana goes for Republicans, the Senate can act as a brake on any House whackiness. If not, I doubt that Congress will be able to come up with the numbers necessary to override Presidential vetoes.

Happy birthday. It's a bummer your wife can't be there to celebrate it. At least you have the dogs, throw a party with them, they love it. I partied with my dogs when I was 23 and had a great time.

Which brings me to my next point, you're only turning 23. With age, in most cases, will bring quite a bit of temperment. Give it about 2-5 more years. There won't be such a sky is falling reaction because your party lost one house (maybe two) of government. If you hadn't noticed, many dem pick-ups are blue-dog dems (several with military experience) anyway.

Personally, I think it's a great result. Only a slight majority and split power. Bush doesn't get a blank check, congressional Republicans loose their unchecked spending and dems have to work with republicans to get anything done. most controversial spending will be DOA.

It's your birthday, pull yourself together and be happy. And PS, if you hate your job, go back to school. You're only 23. There is alot of possibility there yet. I was able to work nearly full-time and get through school. Most schools have flexible enough schedules that you can work around them. You only need enough to pay the rent & dog food, you should be able to have school covered by student loans. School pays for itself pretty fast. Plus it may keep your mind of the wife being gone.

Dang. Only 23 years old and you have your head screwed on so much better than I did at 23. I'm proud to know that there are still people with your character and with their feet on the ground here in America. It gives me a lot of hope for the future, and has rewened my faith and strengthened my resolve on this otherwise revolting day.

May you have many more together with your wife and continue to grow into one of the people who makes America a great country. Congratulations and best wishes.

that I was a screaming liberal at 23 though.

Take a deep breath, hug the dog. You'll get older, things will get better. And then things will look like they're getting worse. Or something. As long as your wife loves loves you (or at least continues to tolerate you) and you've got a dog things will be OK.

Raven yesterday I worked the polls all day. Don't become a dour democrat. I know I saw them all day. And in Michigan they got what they wanted 4 more years of Jennifer Granholm and 6 more years of Debbi Stabinaw. (I digress)

Being 23 and also being married is great. I didn't find my husband until I was 31. So you have a great wife ( she must be she married you AND is willing to searve our country).

THE GLASS IS HALF FULL NOT EMPTY MY FRIEND

P.S. Hug yourself for me..OK? Don't laugh just stand up and do it. Be good! God Loves You

My whole sky is falling fear revolves around losing the Iraq War. I have very definite opinions of what will happen when we retreat (when, not if. The Dems won the House and probably the Senate). I hope they won't happen, but if they do, I will be ready.

As for getting a new job, I have a chance to do that in 2008. School is not required, though I will probably go to school full time then. Until then, I'm stuck where I am.

For the rest of it, thanks for the smiles. Especially you, Policy. Makes this day that much brighter.
