The End of an Era

The Army Green uniform is no more.

I've never been a fan of the Army Green. As some wag somewhere at sometime said, it combined all the worst features of a business suit and a uniform.

But green has been the Army uniform color since 1954 and I am ambivalent.

I only wish that when they had changed the uniform they had reverted to some of the cool items of the past blues. Shoulder straps instead of pin-on insignia. A belt. A real belt with a real buckle. A bit classier tailoring. But if you can't maintain the tradition of the color you can at least maintain the tradition of frumpiness.

Unless I'm mistaken, either that photo contains three sets of twins or there is some serious photoshopping going on.

Does SecDef Gates know about this subterfuge (or twin abuse, as the case may be?) Did he approve it, or was he only informed after it was too late to stop this madness?

Either way, I call on Nancy Pelosi to resign. She's the fashion expert with oversight responsibility.

This is all very troubling.

See the Academy

Much better looking than some of crazy things the AF Uniform Board has been considering, at least.

-----------
We are all heroes, you and Boo and I. Hamsters and rangers everywhere, rejoice!

I entered the Army in August 1956 and was issued the same OD uniform that WWII soldiers had worn. Shortly after, my brown boots and lowquarters were taken and dyed black. I did not get issued AG44 uniforms until I returned from Korea in 1958. If I had my druthers, I would have stayed with the OD uniform and Eisenhower jacket. I thought the AG44's were bad But these replacements!!!

But judging by the replacements, I fear you are once again spot on, Streiff.

Of course, they fixed most of the problems with the modern class A's when they got rid of the blasted garrison cap, or whatever that awful fast food service cap was called. Made making it through boot camp even more important....

The devil take order now! I'll to the throng:
Let life be short; else shame will be too long.
